Inventing and Innovating (42600)
What does it take to be an inventor? How can inventions be protected? And, most importantly, how do inventions and innovations benefit society? Students will explore these important topics in the Inventing and Innovating module. Topics include:
- The Importance of Innovation: Students examine changes and trends in all aspects of life that inspire innovation.
- From Innovation to Invention: From studying inventions and their creators, students focus on qualities necessary to embark on inventive projects.
- Protecting Ideas and Inventions: With new product ideas in development, students learn the procedures for protecting their inventions and related ethics.
Profiting from Invention (42648)
How many times have you thought, "I had that idea long ago?" Having ideas is only the first step. Getting your product to market is the real goal. Profiting from Invention will develop students' knowledge and skills in:
- Launching the Invention: Students evaluate the marketability of their inventions and develop plans to sell or license, manufacture and finance their products.
- Sales Strategy: Students consider website design, sales/distribution channels and pricing for their products.
- Marketing and Advertising: Students develop marketing plans and design advertisements for their products.
Building Career Success (42649)
Selling yourself is the first step to selling your ideas. Young people need to learn how to market themselves to prospective employers or investors. Building Career Success will train students in:
- Communication Foundations: Students develop listening, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills.
- Communicating at Work: Students apply techniques for effective reading and business writing.
- Workplace Skills: This lesson addresses employer expectations, such as positive attitude and initiative, and computer skills.
- Dress for Success: Students focus on grooming and professional wardrobes.
- Leadership Skills: This lesson addresses leadership qualities and participation in meetings.
- Career Planning: Students embark on self-discovery and learn techniques for researching careers and pursuing promotions.
- Applying for Jobs: Students develop résumés, practice interviewing, and examine sources of employment opportunities.
- Taking Pre-Employment Tests: This lesson prepares students for both hands-on (such as word processing) and hands-off (such as math and psychological) pre-employment tests.
- Succeeding on the Job: Students learn about job performance, evaluation, and training in order to succeed and advance at work.
- Managing Spending: Students learn to develop and adhere to personal budgets.
- Using Credit: Students learn how to establish credit and how to build and maintain good credit ratings.
- Banking, Saving and Investing: This lesson presents various types of financial institutions, accounts, and investments.
